Pakistan’s State Bank (SBP) is set to make big changes to the country’s currency system. The Governor of SBP, Jameel Ahmed, announced on Monday that all currency notes will soon get a fresh look. This decision is aimed at stopping people and organizations from using money for illegal activities.
The governor revealed these plans during a casual chat with journalists. He emphasized that the new currency notes will be made from a special material. This material will have the latest International Security Features, making the money safer and harder to copy illegally.
There’s also a creative side to this update. The bank is planning to hold a contest in February to decide the design of the new notes. They want the new currency to look good with interesting patterns, bright colors, and, most importantly, strong security features.
Work on the design for these new notes has already started and should be finished by March. But the governor made it clear that Pakistan won’t be following India’s footsteps. He was referring to India’s sudden money change in 2016, which caused a lot of disruption.
Moreover, sources from SBP shared that this move is a response to the growing number of fake notes being reported. The bank is ready to tackle this issue by introducing these new notes with high-tech security measures.
This change is expected to do more than just fight against illegal money. It will also improve the overall safety and trustworthiness of Pakistan’s currency.
