In recent heavy rainfall that began on Thursday, at least 27 individuals, including children, have lost their lives in various incidents across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority and Rescue 1122 in Peshawar confirmed these fatalities and reported that 38 others were injured due to the rain-related disruptions.
The continuous downpour has not only affected the human population but also led to the loss of livestock, as conveyed by Rescue 1122 KP. Most of the deaths occurred due to the collapse of roofs in residential buildings, with 18 children among the victims.
The province has also witnessed a landslide that claimed one life, and over 150 homes have been reported as damaged—33 completely and 129 partially. These incidents are a direct result of the four-day-long rain spells that have lashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as stated by an official from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.
Following the devastation, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued directives to provide immediate relief and compensation to those affected. He has also called for measures to reopen blocked roads and to assist those who have been stranded due to the rains and landslides. The Chief Minister has instructed the PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations to remain vigilant and to extend all possible support to the affected populations.
