PPP Chairman Points Fingers at Powerful Lobbies and Bureaucracy for Persistent Issues

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has pointed fingers at “powerful lobbies and bureaucracy” for the country’s persistent issues.

During a conversation with students at the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology Islamabad campus, Bilawal discussed his party’s manifesto titled “Chuno Nai Soch Ko (Choose new thinking)” ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Addressing the crowd on Monday, Bilawal promised to take strong action to diminish the influence of elites and influential groups in Pakistan. He pledged to provide support to those less fortunate by removing financial benefits currently given to the wealthier classes.

The PPP leader highlighted the major challenges Pakistan is facing, such as rising prices, poverty, lack of jobs, and environmental changes. He stressed that these issues need urgent attention, warning that the ongoing economic crisis is a significant threat.

Bilawal, having spent 18 months as a foreign minister in the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement government, shared his insights about the resistance to change within the bureaucracy in Islamabad. He criticized bureaucrats for their lack of action and their reluctance to allow others to implement changes.

The party’s manifesto, which Bilawal states was developed with input from economic specialists, includes plans that could face opposition.

He acknowledged the anticipated pushback, stating, “powerful lobbies create problems and a powerful reaction will come from the powerful sector after the abolishment of ministries.”
