Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has questioned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s follow-through on their campaign promises during a charged political rally in Faisalabad.
Sharif highlighted the people’s unmet expectations regarding housing and jobs, and he reminded them of his own party, the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), and its track record of keeping promises.
Sharif delivered a powerful speech, pressing the attendees to consider whether any of PTI’s claims had materialized, particularly the pledge to provide five million houses and to reduce unemployment.
“PTI promised 5 million houses. Has anyone got a house? Any person present in this meeting should raise his hand who has found a house?” He also mocked the PTI’s claims of having the youth’s support.
In his speech, the former prime minister also expressed criticism over the current government’s lack of progress in creating jobs. He sent out a plea to his brother, Shehbaz Sharif, who is also in politics, to make employment a priority. Nawaz Sharif pointed out the need for more than just infrastructure projects like the metro bus service, emphasizing the people’s need for jobs.
Additionally, Sharif made promises of his own, outlining his plans to enhance the nation’s infrastructure and reduce the cost of basic necessities such as bread, gas, petrol, sugar, and flour. “Even if you say no, we will make more [motorways]… after coming to power we’ll make bread, gas, petrol, sugar, and flour cheaper,” he declared.
The Senior Vice President of PML-N, Maryam Nawaz, supported Sharif’s statements. She focused on the party’s dedication to service and performance, denouncing the negative politics often seen in political rivalries. She praised PML-N’s approach to politics and criticized PTI’s strategies and behavior.
At the rally, vibrant support for Sharif was visible, with supporters carrying signs that celebrated the accomplishments of his tenure and highlighted the differences with the PTI’s governance.
