Islamabad, Pakistan Weather Update: More Rain and Snow Expected, Followed by Cold Spell

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts further rain with thunderstorms and snowfall over the hills for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various other regions in Pakistan on Sunday evening and night. A westerly wave is currently influencing weather patterns over the upper parts of the country.

The PMD expects the weather conditions to bring more rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by snow over the hills, in the Potohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan by Sunday night.

As we head into Monday and Tuesday, most parts of Pakistan are set to experience cold and dry weather, with the upper regions facing particularly freezing temperatures.

Minimum temperature forecasts for Islamabad are between 07-09 degrees Celsius for Monday and 06-08 degrees Celsius for Tuesday. Similarly, Rawalpindi is also expected to have minimum temperatures in the range of 07-09 degrees Celsius on Monday and 06-08 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

In recent weather events over the last 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms with snowfall over the mountains have been reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper and central Punjab. Isolated areas have also experienced heavy rainfall and hailstorms.

Recorded rainfall in millimeters and snowfall in inches are as follows:

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Malam Jabba received the highest rainfall of 108 mm, followed by various other regions with significant downpours. Snowfall was most significant in Malam Jabba at 19 inches, with other areas like Kalam and Chitral also recording notable snow accumulation.

Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Punjab have similarly experienced substantial rainfall, with various cities recording significant millimeter counts.

Kalat and Kalam were the coldest places, where temperatures plunged to -8 degrees Celsius below freezing.

In Islamabad, the morning’s minimum temperature was 08 degrees Celsius with relative humidity at 94 percent. Rawalpindi recorded the same temperature and humidity levels in the morning.

Residents should stay updated with the latest weather reports and be prepared for the projected cold and dry conditions following the expected rain and snow.
