Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to Challenge Court Verdict in Iddat Case

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s founder, Imran Khan, and his wife Bushra Bibi have expressed their disappointment over a court ruling they describe as “un-Islamic.” Imran Khan believes that the case was concocted to humiliate them. He shared his thoughts with reporters, stating, “This is the first time a case involving Iddat has been brought up.”

Imran Khan emphasized his resolve, stating he has never agreed to any deals in the past and wouldn’t in the future, saying he’d rather die than compromise.

He also mentioned that this was an unprecedented event where a person received a 14-year prison sentence in a Toshakhana case. With around 200 cases filed against him, Khan pointed out that no other individual in the country’s history has faced so many legal challenges.

Following the ruling that sentenced both him and his wife to seven years, the party announced their intention to appeal the decision.

Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Gohar, condemned the case and the allegations as politically motivated with no substantive basis. The allegations originated from Aun Chaudhry, a former confidant of Khan, and a key witness in the case.

According to Gohar, even the cleric who officiated the marriage admitted to being influenced by Chaudhry. The lawyer criticized the court’s judgement, noting that the judge disregarded a Supreme Court verdict related to the 39-day Iddat as precedent.

Instead, the judge considered a subsequent family gathering as the legitimate marriage ceremony rather than the original one.

Barrister Gohar argues that these actions are a clear violation of the constitution, aimed at politically undermining and tarnishing Imran Khan’s reputation.
