High Chance of Beginning Ramadan Fasting on March 12, Says Weather Expert

As Muslims worldwide prepare for the start of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting, weather expert Jawad Memon predicts a 95% likelihood that Pakistan will observe its first day of fasting on March 12. According to Memon, “First taraweeh will be observed on the night of March 11, whereas the first fast will be on March 12.”

Despite the new moon marking Ramadan’s start on March 10, it is expected to be visible to the naked eye only by March 11. Following tradition, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with its zonal committees throughout Pakistan, will gather to review moon sighting evidence and officially declare the commencement of Ramadan.

The holy month is celebrated with great devotion, and this year, Muslims in Pakistan, as well as billions worldwide, will fast from dawn until dusk. The duration of the fast ranges from 12 to 17 hours, varying by location.

In Pakistan, Ramadan brings an increase in charitable acts and public food drives, with locals setting up stalls beside roads to offer food to those traveling home in the evenings.

Additionally, the month typically sees a surge in business due to the festive atmosphere and in anticipation of Eid ul Fitr, with shopping trends peaking as the holiday approaches.
