CTD Thwart Planned Attack on Adiala Jail Rawalpindi; Arrest 3 Terrorists

RAWALPINDI: A planned terrorist attack on Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi was averted thanks to the quick actions of the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department and local police. On Thursday night, three terrorists equipped with explosives and a detailed map of the jail were arrested, as announced by the Rawalpindi police.

City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani reported that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police worked together in a coordinated effort that led to the capture of the three individuals. These terrorists were found in possession of advanced weaponry, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs), alongside the prison map.

The operation was launched after the authorities received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the vicinity. The arrested terrorists are said to be Afghan nationals who were reportedly planning to carry out attacks in the area. Following the arrest, a comprehensive search operation around the Adiala Jail vicinity has been initiated by the police and other law enforcement agencies.

The suspects have since been moved to a secure and undisclosed location for further interrogation.

It’s worth noting that the Central Jail Rawalpindi, also known as Adiala Jail, is facing issues due to overcrowding. Although the facility is designed to house 2,200 inmates, it currently contains over 7,000. Among the high-profile inmates are Pakistan’s former prime minister and founder of the PTI, Imran Khan, along with a former foreign minister and the ex-Chief Minister of Punjab.
