Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has officially nominated Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for the position of Prime Minister of Pakistan. In addition, Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been named for Chief Minister of Punjab.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Pakistan and the political parties and leaders supporting them, Nawaz Sharif conveyed his strong belief that these leadership decisions would help Pakistan overcome economic challenges and bring relief from inflation to the citizens.
According to the latest count from the Election Commission of Pakistan, the coalition led by Shehbaz Sharif, which includes PML-N, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), has won 152 general seats.
With the inclusion of reserved seats for women and minorities, their tally is poised to comfortably surpass the simple majority threshold of 169 needed to form the government at the center.
The coalition still faces the challenge of reaching a two-thirds majority in the 336-member National Assembly, which requires 224 seats, a number considered essential for making major legislative changes.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, PML-N’s Information Secretary, mentioned in a discussion with Geo News that Nawaz Sharif believes his most effective role is to assist Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz from behind the scenes, managing party affairs and ensuring smooth governance.
She also highlighted that every political party involved is currently forming committees to discuss the specifics of power-sharing in any prospective government arrangements.
