PTI Urges Election Commission to Suspend Karachi Mayor and Sindh Governor

The political party Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ‘temporarily remove’ Karachi’s Mayor Murtaza Wahab and the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori.

PTI claims that both officials have violated the election code of conduct, potentially threatening the fairness of the upcoming February 8 elections.

PTI’s Karachi leader, Khurrum Sher Zaman, who is also a candidate in the elections, alleges that the mayor and the governor have been involved in activities that compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

He has formally complained to the provincial election commissioner, asking for a full investigation into these claims.

Sher Zaman is calling for immediate action from the ECP, which includes suspending both officials from their positions and sealing their offices. He believes this is necessary to stop any further misuse of their roles for political purposes and to maintain fair competition among all political parties.

Mayor Wahab has responded to the allegations, assuring the ECP that his recent press conference was focused on public issues and not related to the election campaign. He stated his commitment to following the code of conduct and denied attempting to influence the elections.

The ECP has yet to decide on the PTI’s request, as the outcome of this dispute could have significant implications for the perceived fairness of the upcoming vote.
