In recent news, the relationship between Pakistan and Iran took a step towards normalcy as both countries’ ambassadors returned to their respective embassies in Islamabad and Tehran.
This follows after both nations experienced heightened tensions due to an Iranian airstrike in Pakistan, which led to a retaliatory response from Islamabad targeting terrorist sites in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province.
The Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, announced on Friday that this return of envoys was based on a mutual understanding between the two neighboring countries.
She confirmed the arrival of Muhammad Muddasir Tipu, Pakistan’s Ambassador, in Tehran, as well as Reza Amiri Moghadam, the Iranian Ambassador, in Islamabad.
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Moghadam shared his journey back to Islamabad. He acknowledged the effective and careful diplomatic efforts of both the Iranian and Pakistani governments.
Ambassador Mudassir, traveling to Tehran, expressed his resolve to work towards stronger relations between Pakistan and Iran, emphasizing the importance of such relations for regional peace and the historic connections between the people of the two nations. His message conveyed hope for a fresh start between Pakistan and Iran.
In a related diplomatic engagement, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belarus, Sajjad Haider Khan, had a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Belarus, Alireza Sanei, in Minsk.
They discussed common interests and celebrated their return to their embassies by January 26, 2024, while reflecting on the longstanding, brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Iran.
